Director of family ministries job description

Part time (15- 20 hours weekly) $20/hour to start


Plan Sunday School for kids aged 4-11 for each week

Train and schedule teachers/aides

Plan and implement special family events, e.g.: Christmas pageant, Holy Week activities, Easter; Vacation Bible School a possibility; environmental education using the church’s garden; family hikes/picnics

Bi-weekly parents’ gatherings

Provide leadership and spiritual reflection for teachers and aides, helping them to articulate a progressive Christian faith

As part of a multi-person staff, participate in weekly staff meetings

Compose/curate/send weekly Children and Family newsletter

Contract with child care agency for care for infants and children up to age 4

Lead families and children in activities and reflection to build faith, world awareness, environmental stewardship, and connection with justice and peace issues


The ideal candidate will:

Have a bachelor’s degree

Possess a living faith that can be clearly articulated

Be familiar with Bible

Have energy and joy for work with children and families

Work collaboratively

Work proactively and imaginatively

Feel comfortable supervising volunteers

Teach by example

Have church experience
